Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defence official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been told to refrain from talking about secret information in all vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified information while riding in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any kind of vehicle, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Defence Context

The revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This wider defence environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all aspects of official activities, from transport usage to communication practices.
