Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
